THE WHOLE MONTH OF JANUARY!
*JANUARY FUN DAYS! is an annual event here at SPA. Most days this month, I’ll post some kind of art related query. You’ll receive one Painting Point per day. If you reply/comment on all the posts (right or wrong, serious or not) you’ll receive 30 PP, which you can put towards my art/art prizes (prints, small paper originals, discounts off larger works). There will be bonus points! & If you don’t care about points, you can answer the questions anyway. & If you answer at least one ‘magic’ question, you will be entered to win the JFD! grand prize! (yet to be determined, a painting of some kind, perhaps? ). The idea is to hear from you. …& to have fun, & maybe learn something about art, or you, or well, pretty much anything.
Ready? Okay! Let’s play!
Painting Points expire in October of the same year of issue.
& if not enough people want to play, well, then I won’t either.
A heartfelt thank you to every single soul who made the effort to visit my studio over the weekend; toddlers & dogs included – yeah, I know they didn’t really make an effort, but they make the place interesting.
Thank you to everyone who purchased some art, & those that just came to look, too.
Some of you have been coming for years, & some were new to the (slightly overwhelming & quite varied) abundance of work.
I sold pieces going back about fourteen years. I’ll be posting a smattering of some of the work that sold, &/or that I remembered to document, a few things slipped out without a scan or photo.
If you missed it, or were hoping to get a second look, I’m participating in Portland Open Studios this fall, so maybe I’ll see you then.
Here begins the countdown to my second Springtime Open Studio. I’ll be adding works to my blog that will be available (for viewing or purchase) May 18, 19 & 20. So, mark your calendars, & save your pennies.
Some work will be rock bottom bargains, & others will be at regular gallery prices. …& some in between.
Browsers, beer drinkers, teetotalers & buyers are all welcome.
…hope I didn’t leave anyone out.

So, every time I start a new project I go through a ritual of cleaning my studio.
It serves many purposes: it lets me start my new series in a nice clean studio. I review old work. I find new inspirations in files & folders. I clean out boxes & drawers. I procrastinate starting. I mull over what my new work will be – before actually starting, while I’m not directly thinking about it.
It’s a mental & physical sorting.
Stirring up ideas & memories.
& as my studio gets close to being as tidy as I can possibly make it (which is not very tidy to outside eyes, or tidy people) that is the point when I get a little anxious.
Because then comes the time to jump in & begin again.
I am very close to jumping into the new.
Wish me luck.
Please join me for January Fun Days on facebook.
Answer fun art related questions & trivia, win prints & drawings, or use the points for a percentage off my paintngs.
Who says nothing is ever free? Some “lucky” artist will take home this beauty. I’ll get to take home one of theirs.
It’s a brilliant thing.
2011 PORTLAND VISUAL ART EXCHANGE
Exhibit dates: December 1-8, Mon-Fri 12-4pm
Public reception and Artist trade event: December 8, 5-8pm
Over 50 participating artists will exhibit one piece of original work in a week-long, invitational show at the Littman Gallery. The exhibit will culminate in a (semi) blind art trade and public reception. Although the event is open to the public, no work is for sale and only the participating artists go home with an original piece of art by another Portland artist.
Anyone interested in participating next year?
